Joe Johnson burst onto the Auckland scene in March 2007 and has been tearing up dancefloors ever since. He brings a level of energy that is rarely seen behind the decks and is by far one of the most approachable DJ’s out there.

The ex Coastie and now North Shore local is a greenkeeper by day while moonlighting in the clubs by night. Some of the events Joe has played at include Our House, Slinky, Deep Hard n Funky, Gods Kitchen, Nitelife, Stoneyridge New Years 07/08, Harder Edge, Global Summer Dance Festival, Oxygen, Gatecrasher, Summadayze, Highlife NYE Experience and the UpFM Solar Series. Joe can be seen performing around New Zealand but mainly Auckland most weekends

Joe is best known for his big driving basslines and epic build-ups. He claims the key to success is “You gotta enjoy the music you play, it reflects in your performance and the crowd draw energy off you”. Joe thrives on having all eyes on him and says “Djing is about communicating with people through music, it give you the best natural high you can imagine.”

Like many, Joe started off mucking around on his friends decks, creating trainwreck mixes for anyone who would listen. After many hours of practice perfecting his ‘sound’, he decided he had something different to offer Auckland clubbers. His reason being not enough DJ’s out there looked like they were enjoying what they were playing.

As in many industries, Djing is about who you know not what you know, and because Joe co-ran nightlife entertainment website CityVibes he had a great headstart, although being an all-round nice guy has definitely helped him get out there. Joe gets a kick out of playing on the same bill as DJ’s he looks up to. He used to watch the likes of Tim Phin at the Met and Sam Hill down at Code, and now he plays before or after them.

Joe respects DJ/Producers such as Tim Richards and Tommy Trash, and hopes to be playing his own tunes in the clubs within the next few years. Watch this space, he is as ambitious as they come and plans to be playing in the UK and Ibiza in the near future. His ambition won him the peoples choice award for the STEREODAYS residency and also recieve the Annual NITE:LIFE awards Best Up and Comer/New DJ 2009, and runner up Best Electro DJ 2009

Joe also had his fair share of promoting co running Neat Events with good friend Jamie White, putting on parties such as FLOORPLAY and BALANCE.

Some of the names Joe has supported: Tommy Trash, Kaskade, Jack Mc Cord (Hed Kandi), Tommy Sunshine, fRew, Kaz James (Bodyrockers), Tim McGee, Rob Kay (Cabin Crew), Sean Paterson (Dogzilla), Steve Hill, Charlottle Birch, Donna Birt, Thomas Gold, Ashton Shuffle, Ryan Riback, Steve Aoki, Foamo, Eric Prydz, Dr Wills, Jon O’Bir, James Lawson, Lee Haslem, Nick Warren, Joey Nigro, Paul Glazby, Ben Stevens, Thomas Bronzwaer, Ron Carrol, Stonebridge, Anthony Papa, Dan Ro, Captain Tinrib, Lorne Padman, Greame Cordery, Kid Kenobi & Mc Sureshot, Mason, Alan Braxe, Hemstock & Jennings, Ian Pooley, Fred Falke, John Askew, John Course, Goodwill, Moto Blanco, Paul Maddox, TV Rock, Tara Reynolds, Mobin Master, Maco Demark, Sam La More, Graham Gold, Soul Central, Timmy Vegas, K90, Soul Avengers, Utah Saints, Boys Noize, The Potbelleez, Vandalism, Lisa Lashes, Sneaky Sound System …… To name a few….

Abbra is without question the leading lady in Hard Dance in New Zealand and highly respected worldwide by all the major players in her chosen genre. With nearly 10 years experience playing to both intimate and massive crowds, she is one of the most talented female DJs to come out of New Zealand.

Abbra proudly hails from Mt Maunganui, but is now living in Auckland where she is better placed to perform at all the major hard dance events on the promotional calendar. Her combination of huge basslines, incredibly tight mixing, and infectious energy coupled with signature female vocals make her sets something to be seen to be believed. One of the most down to earth fun loving DJ’s around make her an inspiration too many both young and old. Along with Hard Dance you may also catch Abbra playing the odd set of Breaks which is her other passion.

A founding member of Detonation Radio, Abbra has directly supported many legendary internationals over the years including Paul Glazby, Lucy Fur, Lisa Lashes, Karim, Anne Savage, Defective Audio, Adam M, Nik Denton, James Lawson, Ed Real, Tara Reynolds, Marc Johnson, Dave Randall, Phil Reynolds, Ben Stevens, Dave Owens, Captain Tinrib, Omega 3, Dave the Drummer, K90, Uberdruck, Steve Hill, Grady G, Narc, and Diego Mejier to name a few, and is currently a Stereodays resident from it’s inception.

If you were lucky enough to witness Abbra’s epic back to back set with one of the worlds finest in Lucy Fur at Frantic 2011, you will know that each and every set Abbra delivers is without peer!

‘Shocking’ adj: inspiring shock; startling

The name says it all. What other DJ randomly plays dubstep in the middle of a hard dance set simply to be ironic, hurls abuse at his crowds through a microphone, or rages so hard in front of the decks he rips a power cord out in front of 500 onlookers?

In his short DJ career, J Shocking has played at almost every major hard dance event in Auckland, literally ‘shocking’ the crowd every time. As perhaps the only dedicated hard tech DJ in Auckland, J Shocking blends tech trance, harder techno, and tech dance in an energetic frenzy of technical mixing. As a specialist opening DJ, his warm up sets get crowds on the floor right from the start of the night. But, refusing to be defined, J Shocking can smash out a face melting set heavier than any other to close out the night. Whether he’s playing at 10pm or 5am, J’s energetic stage antics must be seen to be believed.

A musician from the age of seven, J Shocking has played several instruments, including bass guitar in various local bands. Applying this musical background to the decks, J Shocking continues to push boundaries by introducing local audiences to the harder tech sounds of the UK, Europe and Japan. It is this dedication to being at the forefront of musical trends that has earned J his residency at FX Events, his weekly radio show along with Mirage on UPfm (Kaos Radio, Fridays 10pm), and his mainstage presence around Auckland. He has also played in Hamilton and Wellington, the latter winning a competition to open one of the legendary Twisted? parties. Though his range is diverse, every tune, fast or slow, has one thing in common – relentless, driving energy.

J Shocking has played at the following events: Hard Kandy NZ, Chemistry, Stereodays, Frantic NZ, Bezerk, Twisted? (WEL), Flipside, BLACK, Fuck Off 2010 (HAM), UPfm 9th Birthday, UPfm Solar Series, UPfm Spring Break, Recognition, MeOw, MNTHRD, Flammable, Crank 4 ChCh, Madagascar, Thank You!: The Space Closing Party, Space Invaders, Shift, Boom!
